It’s all about process — clay can be made to look rocky, soft, smooth, hard, rough, sand-like — through stretching, pulling, pinching, poking, sculpting. Like the qualities of the ground that clay comes from, it is that which I am striving to make manifest when creating each tile series. Using the raku firing method, colour or lack of colour are added to the textures and forms. Even when planning a series, the element of surprise from the fire exists.
